Martin Scorsese' 1990 masterpiece Goodfellas immortalizes the hilarious, horrifying life of actual gangster Henry Hill, from his teen years on the streets of New York to his anonymous exile under the Witness Protection Program. Henry's ambivalence about the life he's leading and the people in it, turns him from a street smart kid into a burned out, coked up loser who eventually self-destructs.
If you don't like this movie you're either:
- A girl, and think it's too violent,
- A mobster, and think that ratting on your friends is definitely not film-making material, or
- A complete moron, whose favourite director is Pasolini.
Case fucking closed!
Investigation finished: 2001-01-12
Story: 10/10 - Based on the novel "Wiseguy" by Nicolas Pillegi "Goodfellas" is almost as brilliant as "the Godfather" without being in the least derivative of it.
Acting: 10/10 - Outstanding performances from everyone, but Pesci is especially brilliant as psycho mobster Tommy de Vito. His non-chalance makes him truly frightening.
Violence: 9/10 - The violence is necessarily harsh, when sociopath Pesci goes to work you'll almost cheer his madness.
Nudity: 0/10 - Scorsese is not one for dwelling on female forms, he's a gentleman.
Coolness: 10/10 - Just watch the long tracking shot into the Copa, amazing. Like rock band King Missile said it "Scorsese makes the coolest fucking films ever", indeed he does.
