Based on the memoir by Joe Pistone whose daring and unprecedented infiltration of the New York Mob scene earned him a place in the federal witness protection program. Donnie Brasco is practically adopted by Lefty Ruggiero, a gregarious, low-level "made" man who grows to love his young protégé like a son. As Donnie acclimates himself to Lefty's world, he distances himself from his wife and family for their own protection. Losing his identity and questioning his loyalties, Donnie loses his way in a gritty and treacherous no-man's land.
Donnie Brasco offers an uncommonly detailed, privileged glimpse inside the world of organized crime from the perceptive of the little guys at the bottom of Mafia hierarchy rather than from the kingpins at the top. Not as brilliant as "Goodfellas" but still hugely entertaining.

Story: 9/10 - Based on the real-life story of former undercover cop Joseph Pistone. Mob movies can't all be as grandeur as The Godfather.
Acting: 10/10 - Al, I forgive you for starring in "Scent of a woman", you're truly one of the greatest. The rest of the cast have to work extra hard to live up to Pacino's standards, and they are rewarded.
Violence: 6/10 - Has a massacre scene that I'll have a hard time forgetting.
Nudity: 4/10 - Just enough to blindfold the kids.
Coolness: 8/10 - It's set in the 70's, the clothes, the music and the lingo. It's all there, but why remove the mustache, Johnny.
